Leisure Island
Leisure Island, or Leisure Isle as it is more commonly known, seems like a picture postcard scene but it is actually an everyday reality of life on the island. Surrounded on all sides by the waters of the tidal Knysna estuary, which is ringed by a chain of hills, Leisure Isle is linked to the mainland by a narrow causeway. It is a haven of peace and tranquility, where life is enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
The island is a residential suburb, one of the two island suburbs of Knysna. It is 6 kms from the center of Knysna, and is approached from George Rex Drive. The Island has a total circumference of over 4 kms, is 1.6 kms in length and .5 km across at its widest point. A sea wall surrounds the island, and the ebb and flow of the tides in the lagoon and salt marshes add to its unique character and ensure a constantly changing scene.
Along the shores of the Island lie beaches, parks and areas of protected natural vegetation. Leisure Isle has narrow roads, little lanes and lovely gardens, but the water is never far away, and the matchless views in all directions contribute to the special ambiance of the place and the sense of being at one with nature. The estuary and the Island are home to a rich variety of birds and over 300 species of fynbos. The lifestyle of the Island has always been true to its name, with something for the young, the old and everyone in between. It is a perfect place to enjoy building sandcastles, swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, kite-boarding and fishing, not to mention walking, jogging, and cycling. Tennis courts, bowling greens and a range of indoor activities add to the choices.
There are about 450 houses on the Island, more than
half of which are occupied by permanent residents. During the holiday season the Islands population swells considerably, and many day visitors also enjoy its facilities.
Climate:
Knysna has a temperate climate with temperatures ranging from 8 degrees Celsius to 23 degrees Celsius. The annual average rainfall is 750mm which is distributed throughout the year with 75% of this falling at night and peaks in October and November. During summer daytime temperatures average 26 degrees Celsius. The winter temperatures average 21 degrees Celsius during the day and seldom fall below 6 degrees Celsius at night. In winter, a few gale-force westerlies can be expected.

Terms & Conditions
- The property (you) must offer the 15% saving to all verified members
- Verification is done automatically at the time of an enquiry. It is at the property’s discretion whether to offer the saving for a telephonic enquiry. (As you have no means to verify the membership number, it is advisable to get them to do a formal enquiry so they can be verified).
- If the property is currently running a "Special" greater than 15% then the "Special" price will apply. (No further savings needs to be offered). EXCEPT in the case where the "Special" is lower than 15%. In that case the 15% will apply.
Example: A property offering a 10% discount, must offer an additional 5% discount to valid members - so they get a total 15% saving. - The property must offer valid members the saving all year round. (Properties that pick and chose in which seasons to participate run the risk of being removed from the programme completely. Allowing selective participation defeats the integrity of this initiative).
- The property must not inflate the price before the 15% is applied. Prices displayed should be the rack rate. (The official or advertised price of a room).
- The property must honour any bookings made while the property was participating as a $elect Stays property.
- The property must honour the agreement and the spirit in which the initiative is designed to benefit local tourism.
